SiMON Products: Network Architecture

Simon Network

SiMON is based on the open-architecture Ethernet protocol. The system runs in a standard Windows environment, eliminating the need for special software or processors. Additional processor computers may be added for redundancy. Each computer runs in a peer-to-peer architecture, so that no single master terminal can take the system down. Should any computer go down for any reason, all of the other SiMON-redundant computers continue non-stop with monitoring and alarm processing, without user intervention and without any loss of data.

SiMON controllers gather the information and convert sensor data into data packets, which are then transmitted through the Ethernet network to SiMON computers, laptops and pen-based tablet PCs, through hard wire or wireless connections.

SiMON’s architecture is designed to be open-ended and is a modular system solution. As new SiMON features become available or the needs of the vessel change, the system can easily by upgraded by adding new software features, controller boards, PCs and displays, sensor points and controllers.
